Delta 88 Reviews

Features: 9
This amp has your basic palette of features offered by Dr Z. Volume, Treble, Bass, one input for your guitar. It does offer you the option of popping in a GZ34 Rectifier if you feel the need. Power tubes in this tone monster are KT88's.. My amp does not have an effects loop, though Z does offer it on most of his amps. So, with no loop I will give it a 9. With a loop it would get a 10! Fact is this, for all you readers.... Z does not focus on frills, he focuses on tone. If you want frills there are plenty to be had out there in the world of pedals. Amps with a bunch of built in frills are often hard to use on stage and usually with all the frills built in you start to sacrifice tone. One other little thing brings up the level of coolness is that it has a detachable power cord... which is great for an amp head.

Sound Quality: 10
This amp is supurb. Not a bad setting anywhere. Most amps you have to work with to find its sweet spot. Not this thing. It is truly a plug and play amp. Between myself and my friends we have played several guitars through this amp... Les Pauls, PRS, Strats, a Peavey Wolfgang, Heritage Semi-Hollow Blues guitar... again not a bad sound from any one... This amp brings out the best of every guitar we plugged into it. Z is known for great tone and this is no disappointment. Note definition to the highest degree and NEVER harsh. If I had to sum up this amp it would be basically this... Amazingly thick, milkshake-like, beautiful, well-defined tone. Played clean it is great for Country, Jazz, and Funk. Crank the volume a bit and set your Les Paul bridge pick up to 10 and you get amazingly beautiful distortion, with tremendous sustain, and a good tight focused tone across the whole spectrum. This amp is an amazingly versatile TONE MONSTER. Back to the issue of frills... you want some versatility in your sounds... plug just about any pedal into one of Z's amps and it will sound better than any other amp you have played it through... want some recommendations...?? Try some Fulltone, or Carl Martin pedals.... truly amazing analog pedals! Even digital stuff sounds good through a Z amp. But for a true organic experience, plug in some Fulltone pedals and you will be overtaken by a HUGE Wall of tone coming out of the Delta 88! Oh yeah, cant forget one important thing... this amp sounds great through several cabs, I have a Bogner Cube Cab, Marshall 1936 212, and a Z best cab.... the absolute best cab out there is the Zbest 212! Try one and you'll see!

Reliability: 9
This amp head is built tough,.. good solid construction and a solid brass amp chassis. If this amp is like any of his others, it will last. It is a fairly new item, so may be too soon to judge, but like I said... his stuff is built to last from overal construction to quality of tone.

Customer Support: 10
I have contacted Z on several occasions with questions about his amp line-up and settings, and general questions. I have always got a response and been well taken care of... I deal with Stu @ Fat Sound Guitars... and believe me, between Z and Stu, I am WELL taken care of.

Overall Rating: 10
Overall this amp is truly a 10! Where else are you going to get an amazingly toneful hand-built, hand-wired amp at this price point? You wont find one to even come close. I have had a few amps, Line 6, Fender, Bogner, other Dr Z's... The only thing I can say is find a Z to plug into and you'll know right off the bat what I have been talking about and you'll be hooked, just like me.
